Lent Bumps Day 3
Thursday saw a day off for the M1 crew (now racing in division 3) and the W2 , with the first crew to race being the M2 boat in division 4. Going out with intent having being forced to row over during the previous race the M2’s flew off the start (word on the street is that Piran even took his cashmere off for this race…). With the Twelvetrees/Phelan combo setting the rhythm in the stern and Stella calling the distances from the coxes seat, the M2 took feet out of the Jesus IV crew they were chasing every stroke. Sealing the deal with a solid bump this set M2 up to chase Cat’s III on the final day. W1, now primed and ready to chase a fast Pembroke II took to the water. The challenge here was to bump Pembroke II before they bumped a slow Homerton I. After a rapid start, halving the distance between them and Pembroke II the Pembroke boat was only a quarter of a length off bumping Homerton. The Bump god’s shone down and the Pembroke stroke caught a mini-crab and on this the W1 pounced. After a quick bump (50 seconds) the crew were thanked by Homerton at the finish line (presumably as their row over meant no spoons for them…).
